OZONE THERAPY
What Is Ozone Therapy?
Ozone therapy uses medical-grade ozone (O₃), a form of oxygen, to support the body’s natural healing. When administered properly, ozone works as a modulator encouraging balance in the body and improving oxygen use.
At 3:6 Wellness Clinic, ozone therapy is designed to strengthen immune defenses, boost cellular energy, accelerate recovery, and foster greater resilience.
-
Ozone therapy can help energize a sluggish immune system or calm an overactive one, restoring balanced immune signaling and helping the body respond more effectively to stressors and pathogens.
-
Ozone increases red blood cell flexibility, allowing them to deliver oxygen more efficiently to tissues, boosting energy and vitality.
Oxygen is essential for cellular survival, repair, and energy production. When oxygen delivery improves, tissues function more optimally.
-
Cells need oxygen to produce ATP, the body’s energy currency. Aging or stress can lower mitochondrial efficiency.
Ozone therapy may boost mitochondrial function, leading to stronger energy production, greater clarity, and faster recovery.
-
Ozone disrupts harmful bacteria and viruses, supporting the body’s ability to manage infections and restore healthy tissue.
This may support the body's ability to manage infections while preserving healthy tissue.
-
Uncontrolled oxidative stress can worsen inflammation and illness. Ozone therapy activates protective pathways, prompting the body to produce its own antioxidants. This helps restore a healthy balance, similar to the effects of exercise or fasting.
How Ozone Therapy Supports the Body
Ozone Therapy Services at 3:6 Wellness
Nasal Insufflation
Ozone administered through the nasal passageway supports sinus balance, reduces inflammation, and promotes improved oxygen flow to the upper respiratory system.
-
Chronic sinus infections
Sinus inflammation and congestion
Recurrent upper respiratory infections
Sinus pressure and drainage issues
By helping reduce microbial load and inflammation in the nasal passages, this therapy may support healthier sinus function and improved breathing.
-
Frequency depends on your individual needs and tolerance.
Most patients start with treatments daily or every other day for a short period of time. Once improvement is seen, frequency may be reduced.
Your provider will recommend a schedule based on your symptoms and overall health.
-
Most patients do not find the treatment painful.
You may experience:
A mild burning sensation
Temporary nasal irritation
Increased mucus drainage
These effects are typically mild and short-lived. Proper breath-holding during treatment helps prevent coughing or discomfort.
-
The actual administration takes only a few minutes.
Including preparation, a nasal insufflation session typically takes 10-15 minutes.
Ear Insufflation
Medical ozone delivered into the ear canal may support ear pressure, sinus-related congestion, inflammation, and overall head and neck circulation.
-
Ear infections
Sinus infections and congestion
Sore throat or swollen glands
Recurrent colds
Mold-related sinus or head symptoms
Because the ear and sinus cavities are connected through the Eustachian tubes, ozone delivered through the ear canal may help reduce microbial load and inflammation in both areas. Some patients also report improvement in head pressure or brain fog.
-
Frequency depends on your symptoms and response to treatment.
Most patients begin with treatments 2–3 times per week, often every other day. As improvement occurs, your provider may adjust frequency and duration.
Treatments are typically increased gradually using a “low and slow” approach.
-
Ear insufflation is generally not painful.
You may notice:
A mild sensation of fullness
Temporary warmth
Slight irritation
These effects should resolve quickly after the session. If discomfort occurs, the treatment can be adjusted.
-
Treatment time typically ranges from 2–10 minutes, depending on your protocol.
Including setup and monitoring, most sessions take 10–15 minutes.
Vaginal Insufflation
Medical-grade ozone is gently introduced to support microbiome balance, tissue healing, circulation, and immune resilience within the vaginal canal.
-
Chronic or recurrent vaginal infections
Bacterial vaginosis
Yeast overgrowth (candidiasis)
Vaginitis
Cervical inflammation
HPV support
Certain cases of infertility
Ozone acts as a natural antimicrobial while also supporting tissue healing and immune balance. This therapy may help restore a healthier vaginal environment and support overall pelvic wellness.
-
Treatment frequency depends on your condition and overall health.
Most patients begin with treatments 2–3 times per week. In more acute cases, treatments may be done more frequently under provider supervision.
Protocols are adjusted gradually based on response and tolerance.
-
The treatment is generally not painful, but some patients may experience:
Mild cramping
Temporary dryness
Slight warmth or pressure
These sensations are usually mild and resolve quickly. A lubricating gel is often recommended after treatment to reduce dryness.
-
Most sessions last 5–15 minutes, depending on the protocol being used.
Including preparation and monitoring, appointments typically take 15–20 minutes.
Rectal Insufflation
Rectal insufflation allows ozone to be absorbed systemically through the colon to support gut health, detox pathways, immune modulation, and whole-body oxygen utilization.
-
Chronic infections
Immune system imbalance (overactive or underactive immune response)
Autoimmune conditions
Chronic inflammation
Fatigue and low energy
Digestive dysfunction and dysbiosis
Detoxification support
Because ozone is absorbed through the lining of the colon into circulation, this therapy is considered systemic, meaning it supports the entire body — not just the digestive system.
-
Frequency depends on your condition and treatment goals.
Most patients begin with treatments 3–5 times per week. Some protocols use cycling patterns such as:
Daily for 3 weeks, then 1 week off
5 days on, 2 days off
Your provider will determine the appropriate schedule and adjust volume and concentration gradually based on your response.
-
Rectal insufflation is generally not painful, though some patients may experience:
Mild cramping
Temporary bloating or gas
An urge to have a bowel movement
These effects are typically short-lived. The gas is absorbed quickly, and holding it longer than 20–30 seconds is not necessary.
-
The administration itself takes only a few minutes.
Including preparation and monitoring, most sessions take 10–15 minutes.
Consistent treatments over several weeks are often needed before noticeable changes occur.
-
Rectal insufflation may not be appropriate for individuals with:
G6PD deficiency (a genetic red blood cell disorder)
Pregnancy
Significant blood clotting disorders or severe anemia
Serious cardiovascular instability
Your provider will review your medical history carefully to ensure this therapy is safe and appropriate for you.
Lung Ozone Insufflation
Breathed Ozonated Olive Oil – BOO
This gentle respiratory therapy humidifies ozone by bubbling it through olive oil before inhalation, supporting sinus health, airway comfort, immune resilience, and clearer breathing.
-
Lung infections
Sinus infections
Throat infections
Mold exposure or toxicity
Some practitioners may also use it as supportive therapy for:
Asthma
COPD
Lung-related inflammatory conditions
Adjunct support in certain cancer cases
BOO is intended to help reduce microbial load and support tissue healing in the respiratory tract.
-
Most patients begin with treatments 3 times per week.
A typical starting session lasts 15 minutes. After several treatments, sessions may increase to 30 minutes if well tolerated.
Your provider will adjust frequency and duration based on your response.
-
BOO therapy is generally not painful.
Some patients may experience:
Mild throat irritation
Temporary cough
Headache
If this occurs, session time or concentration can be reduced.
Direct ozone gas is never inhaled. The ozone is first bubbled through olive oil, creating ozonides before inhalation.
-
Sessions typically last 15–30 minutes, depending on your protocol.
Including setup, plan for approximately 20–35 minutes per visit.
-
BOO may not be appropriate for individuals with:
Ozone sensitivity
Severe reactive airway disease without supervision
Active respiratory distress
Inability to tolerate inhalation therapies
Because research on inhaled ozonides is limited, treatment is guided by clinical experience and provider discretion.
Ozone Limb Bagging
A limb (hand, arm, foot, or leg) is enclosed in a medical-grade bag filled with ozone gas to support wound healing, circulation, tissue oxygenation, and localized recovery.
-
Infected wounds
Non-healing or slow-healing wounds
Diabetic ulcers
Skin infections
Burns
MRSA
Bug or animal bites
Localized inflammation
Ozone is a strong natural antiseptic. It helps reduce bacteria, viruses, and fungi while also stimulating tissue repair and local circulation to promote faster healing.
-
Most patients begin with treatments 3 times per week.
Unlike many ozone therapies, limb bagging typically starts at a higher concentration and gradually decreases each week as healing improves.
Your provider may increase treatment frequency if progress is slower than expected.
-
Limb bagging is generally well tolerated.
Some patients may experience:
A mild burning sensation over open wounds
Temporary redness or skin irritation
If discomfort occurs, concentration or duration can be adjusted.
-
Most sessions last 20–30 minutes.
Including setup and monitoring, plan for approximately 30–40 minutes.
-
Limb bagging may not be appropriate for individuals with:
Ozone sensitivity
Active uncontrolled bleeding at the treatment site
Severe vascular instability
Known G6PD deficiency
Pregnancy (practitioner discretion)
Your provider will review your health history before beginning treatment.
A required ozone therapy consultation is completed prior to beginning any ozone services. This visit allows us to review your health history, determine appropriate treatment options, and create a personalized plan. The consultation fee is $50 and is separate from the cost of ozone therapy services.
Individual insufflation treatments (ear, nose, vaginal, or rectal) are $40 per area, or you may choose any two areas for $65. We also offer bundled packages for those pursuing ongoing support. Full pricing details and package options can be found on our Pricing page.
Ozone Therapy FAQs
-
Ozone therapy works by creating a brief, therapeutic oxidative signal that stimulates the body’s adaptive responses. This controlled stress encourages:
Increased antioxidant production
Enhanced oxygen metabolism
Improved circulation
Immune modulation
Support of cellular repair pathways
Ozone therapy has been widely researched for decades. While ozone should never be inhaled directly due to its potential to irritate the lungs, it can be administered safely through specific medical procedures under trained supervision.
-
Ozone therapy is used as a complementary approach to support:
Immune resilience
Chronic inflammatory conditions
Recovery from infections
Wound healing and tissue repair
Athletic performance and recovery
Healthy aging and longevity
Brain fog and cognitive clarity
Circulatory support
It supports the body’s healing mechanisms rather than targeting only one symptom.
-
Every patient responds differently, but some commonly reported experiences include:
Increased energy and stamina
Improved mental clarity
Decreased inflammation and discomfort
Enhanced sense of well-being
Temporary detox or “Herxheimer” response (fatigue, mild aches, flu-like symptoms as the immune system activates)
Our team explains each step, adapts therapy to your goals and tolerance, and ensures a supportive healing process.
-
While ozone therapy is not FDA-approved to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent disease, many patients choose it as a complementary therapy to support overall health and resilience. Individuals have reported benefit in the context of:
Chronic or acute infections
Lyme disease
Mold exposure
Autoimmune conditions
Arthritis and joint inflammation
Colitis and Crohn’s disease
Fibromyalgia
Asthma or COPD
Chronic allergies
Low immune function
Chronic fatigue
Inflammatory conditions
Ozone therapy is used as part of a comprehensive wellness plan and is individualized based on each patient’s health history and goals.
-
Ozone therapy may not be appropriate for everyone. Individuals who are pregnant, have hypoglycemia, active bleeding disorders, certain cardiovascular or lung conditions, or a known G6PD deficiency should avoid ozone therapy unless specifically cleared by their healthcare provider.
A consultation is required prior to treatment to review your medical history and determine whether ozone therapy is appropriate for you.
